What is ‘professional’?
I was recently asked to review some comments and give my opinion on whether or not they would be considered professional. How do we define professional? Does the male perspective on professionalism create an overarching impact? Do the most successful members of the library profession mirror male professional values? Should they? Eve Ensler recently spoke at TED – exploring how we value ourselves :
Activate, Educate, Engage, Confront, Defy, Create. Those qualities are all important to the evolution and continuation of the library profession, yet all can be defined as unprofessional when challenging the status quo.
